Ellemoog & Joy K. Playtape
Critic's commentary:
'Play Tape' is not merely an installation but a dynamic reimagining of time through the lens of randomness. The artists transform biological signals into aesthetic experience, challenging the boundaries between technology and nature. Entropy here emerges not as collapse, but as a generative force—disorder reconfigured as creative potential.
PRESS RELEASE
[Introduction – Exhibition Description:]
The Play Tape exhibition is a visual installation that explores the relationship between time and reproduction, narration, and personal memory, delving into the creative power of possibility and randomness as both method and content. By combining technology, biological data, and aesthetic experimentation, the artists propose a new, open, and interactive space: a living hybrid environment of sound and image that is constantly transforming through the use of analog technology (modular synthesizers), touch, light, and biofeedback sensors.
[Conceptual Development]
Dimitris Theodoropoulos (Ellemoog) and Joy Koumentakou (Joy K.) focus on the concept of entropy, seeking within it a new form of meaning. Their work is born from life/nature and unpredictability, proposing randomness not as an error, but as a creative driving force. The system they present is based on biometrics from plants, humans, and natural materials, generating audiovisual conditions that evolve over time, producing work through imperfect or unknown data.
